What kind of natural CBD is on the market?

Natural CBD, or cannabidiol, is available on the market in different types depending on the product you buy and the needs you have for it.

CBD can be sold in full-spectrum oils, broad-spectrum oils and CBD isolates. The type of CBD product created depends on the extraction method, the manufacturer processes and the final formulation.

What is a full-spectrum CBD oil?

CBD is one of over 100 different cannabinoids present in the hemp plant, which also includes THC (the most commonly known), CBG and CBN to name a few.

Full-spectrum CBD oil contains all of the cannabinoids present in the hemp plant and is usually recognisable by the dark colour of the oil.

Each cannabinoid in the plant has its own properties and can be used on their own for different reasons and benefits, however due to a state that is known as ‘the entourage effect’, consuming multiple cannabinoids together in a single product actually gives a stronger and more potent effect than taking a single cannabinoid.

The cannabinoids work together to enhance their properties, so a consumer is likely to gain more benefits when consuming full-spectrum CBD oil as the cannabinoids working together work out to more than the individual cannabinoids.

However, it must be considered that because the full-spectrum CBD oil contains all of cannabinoids present, it does mean that the oil will always contain a small dose of THC, so this is not suitable for most consumers, athletes or professionals that conduct drug tests.

What is a broad-spectrum CBD oil?

A broad-spectrum CBD oil will usually contain all of the cannabinoids and compounds in the hemp plant, except for THC which is remediated (taken out) from the oil to non-detectable levels.

This means that you will still achieve the benefits of the entourage effect, as the broad-spectrum CBD oil still contains the majority of the cannabinoids, flavonoids and terpenes, but no THC.

One benefit of broad-spectrum CBD is that you keep a clear mind — no THC means no “high” feeling, or that the product is not ‘psycho-active’. This is a huge factor for a lot of consumers that take CBD, as they want to feel the benefits of CBD without having to worry about THC being present and affecting them when they take CBD oils.

Broad spectrum CBD oils are usually a dark or golden yellow.

Herbotany Health’s products are all made with an organic and premium quality broad-spectrum CBD oil.

What is CBD isolate?

CBD isolate is a crystalline powder with a CBD content of more than 99%, which is then turned into isolated cannabidiol using purification processes. This is then used to add into a CBD oil to create a product that can be consumed.

The isolate is usually obtained by supercritical CO2 extraction, which is a scientific method that is very effective at just extracting the CBD rather than the other cannabinoids in the hemp plant.

CBD isolate is very often used in medicine or used in CBD products for athletes and professionals so that they can guarantee that there are no traces of THC present in the products.

Due to their high purity, CBD isolate products do not benefit from the ‘entourage effect’ as they contain CBD only. However, this can have other advantages as consumers can be very specific about their needs and know the effects that CBD has on them. In an oil mixture, the CBD isolate appears in a very light golden colour. CBD isolate is usually more expensive compared to other products due to the manufacturing processes being highly scientific, time consuming and costly to scale in to one product.
